RACEMoto’s third regional round ran July 25-26, back at Shannonville, a day after the FIM national round wrapped on the same track. By that point in July the place felt less like a venue and more like a second home with worse coffee.
Crosby’s 50cc class gave us the full range of what this sport actually is, inside one weekend. Race one, he won it — ahead of Natalie Tanasic and Cole Hodgson, clean, no asterisk needed. Race two, he fell late and couldn’t get the little Honda restarted. DNF.
I am not going to dress that up as anything other than what it was. A seven-year-old won a race on Saturday and did not finish one on Sunday, and both of those are just what racing is at this age — not a redemption arc, not a lesson with a bow on it, just two outcomes from the same bike on the same weekend. He was disappointed about the second one for approximately as long as it took to get back to the trailer, and thrilled about the first one for a good deal longer than that.
RACEMoto’s next Shannonville weekend, August 26-27, ran none of the youth classes at all — Inside Motorcycles’ own report on that round says so, citing the FIM national series’ upcoming round at Lombardy on September 4 as the reason. That is more than a week later, not the same weekend, so I don’t fully understand the connection myself; I’m reporting what the source says rather than guessing at a tidier explanation. Either way, this July round was it for the regional season’s mini classes for the rest of the summer. A win, a fall, and a quiet track for a few weeks.
